v0.1.31825 Sep 2026·Accessibility, Tabs & interface

Floati engine pages work with screen readers

Pages drawn by the Floati engine used to be a picture to a screen reader. Now VoiceOver, Narrator and other screen readers can read and operate them: headings, links, buttons, form fields and landmarks, placed exactly where you see them. Keyboard users get a visible focus ring, your system accessibility settings reach every page, and a new Screen reader view shows what a screen reader finds and what it cannot use.

What changed 9 changes

Accessibility	Screen readers can read and operate engine pages. The engine builds the same accessibility tree a browser gives VoiceOver or Narrator (roles, names, states, positions) and lays an invisible copy of the page over what you see, so headings, links, buttons, form fields, tables and landmarks are all there. Checked against the reference browser on 11 real sites, it matches about 95% of what the reference browser gives a screen reader, and VoiceOver was recorded reading real pages aloud.
Accessibility	Full keyboard use: Tab moves through the page in order with a visible focus ring, Enter and Space activate links and buttons, and typing, selects and rich text editors work, including through a screen reader.
Accessibility	Text inside frames can now be read by a screen reader, and editable areas on pages (contenteditable) work as text boxes.
Tabs & interface	Your system settings now reach pages: reduce motion, increase contrast, reduce transparency, invert colours and dark mode. Pages that offer calmer or higher-contrast styles now show them.
Tabs & interface	A high contrast mode that repaints any page in a readable palette, following your system on Windows and available on Mac too (Settings, Accessibility, High contrast pages). The reference browser has no such mode on Mac.
Tabs & interface	Always show focus ring: when a site removes its own keyboard focus outline, Floati draws one so you never lose your place.
Tabs & interface	New Screen reader view (Cmd or Ctrl+Shift+A): shows the headings, landmarks and controls a screen reader finds, and flags what it cannot use: text with poor contrast measured from the actual pixels on screen, unlabelled buttons (with a guessed name), tap targets smaller than 24 pixels, text hidden from screen readers, and hidden keyword-stuffed text.
Accessibility	Unlabelled icon buttons are no longer silent: Floati guesses a name from the icon or link and a screen reader says it, marked as a guess.
Accessibility	CSS system colours (Canvas, LinkText and the rest) are now supported, and the engine draws the standard keyboard focus ring like the reference browser.
