v0.1.2225 Sep 2026·Rendering, Web APIs & DOM

Modern CSS spacing and image cropping catch up

A batch aimed at the CSS modern sites lean on for spacing and images. Layouts that size and space with the newer writing-mode aware properties now take effect, safe-area padding that phones and notched screens use resolves instead of being thrown away, and an image told to crop to one edge finally crops there instead of always centring.

What changed 4 changes

Rendering	Writing-mode aware sizing works: inline-size / block-size and their min and max forms now set width and height, so layouts written with the modern logical properties are no longer ignored.
Rendering	Safe-area and other env() values resolve. A padding written with env() (the standard way to keep content clear of a phone notch or rounded corner) used to be dropped whole; it now uses its fallback, so the spacing survives.
Rendering	Positioning an element by its logical start/end edges (inset-inline-start and friends) now works on its own, not only in the two-value pair form.
Web APIs & DOM	An image told where to sit inside its frame now honours it: object-position was ignored so a cover image always centred; a hero image set to crop to its top (or any edge) now crops there.
