Variable web fonts now render at the weight the page asks for
Most modern sites ship ONE variable font file (Inter, Roboto Flex and the like) that spans every weight, and set font-weight in CSS to pick one. The engine had no variation support for downloaded fonts, so it drew the default instance for every weight: font-weight 300 and 600 both came out at 400, making light text too heavy and bold text too light. Now, when a web font carries a weight axis, the engine bakes a real static instance at each standard weight inside the font's range and registers them as the family's actual weights, so the existing weight matching lands on true 300, 600, 700 outlines and advances. This reuses the same instancer that already fixed the macOS system font, now pointed at downloaded fonts too, and is the web-font half of the largest remaining source of felt text difference on modern sites. Non-variable fonts are untouched. Paint moves 95 to 96; overall holds at 52.
