The layout engine is complete: columns that break like a magazine
This release finishes the from-scratch page-layout engine. Long content set in multiple columns now breaks the way a designer expects: a tall paragraph or a bordered card splits cleanly from the bottom of one column to the top of the next instead of overflowing, with its border and rounded corners sliced correctly across the break rather than repeated; a figure stays glued to its caption; a full-width heading spans across all the columns with a band of columns above and below it; and a column never strands a single lonely line at its top or bottom. Right-to-left text gets its finishing touches too: a paragraph set to auto-detect its direction now chooses left-to-right or right-to-left from its own first word, and brackets around Hebrew or Arabic curve and sit the correct way. Together with the vertical-writing and right-to-left work of recent releases, the engine now renders the full range of real-world page layouts as faithfully as a mainstream browser. Pages that use none of this are unchanged, to the pixel.
