Why the CV Builder is free

No account, nothing to pay, and the AI runs on your own device. That last part started as a money problem.

Passed on: Charge to download Chose: Free, no account

I started the CV Builder in April 2026. It has one job: take you from a blank page to a finished CV you can send.

Before I wrote any of it, I looked at how this kind of tool usually works, and one pattern kept bothering me. You spend an hour typing your whole work history into a form. You get it looking right. Then you press download and find out that is the moment it costs money.

I understand why it works as a business. It still felt wrong to me, because of who is sitting at that screen. Often it is someone who has just lost a job, or someone trying to get their first one. That is a stressful week, and it is rarely a week with money to spare. I did not want Floati to be one more thing standing between a person and an interview.

So I made the simplest decision I could. It is free, all of it, and that includes the download.

What free changed

Once I had decided that, a lot of other questions answered themselves. If nothing is for sale, there is no reason to ask for an account. If there is no account, your draft can stay in your own browser. Free came first, and the privacy followed from it more than I expected.

In May I added AI that helps rewrite your CV. This is where I got nervous, because a hosted AI model costs money every time someone uses it. I had no budget for that, and I could not run one myself. For a while it looked like the one feature people wanted was the one I could not afford to offer for free.

The way out was to stop thinking about my server at all. The model downloads to your browser once and runs on your own machine.

That started as a money decision. It also turned out to be the better privacy decision.

A CV holds your phone number, your address and your work history. When your device can run the model, the AI never needs to send them anywhere. I would love to say I planned that from the start. I did not. I was trying to solve a cost problem, and I found something better than the thing I was looking for.

What it costs me

Free means the CV Builder earns nothing, and I do think about that. But it was the first thing I made that a stranger could use to change their week. If it helps one person get to an interview without paying for the privilege, it has done what I wanted it to do.
